Start a Discord channel (duh)
created almost 3 years agoedited almost 3 years ago
Step zero in our journey towards creating a Precious Plastic DAO was to create a Discord channel (duh) to bring together like-minded people with insiders knowledge on the world of DAOs and tokenomics.
Say hello to #🦄DAO-dev channel, in the first few months we've gathered a few contributors sharing very useful articles and offering endless rabbit-holes to spend our nights.
This channel has also been incredibly useful to gather precious feedback on our primordial ideas and gather validation or no-gos on first concepts and ideas.
Moving forward we plan to make this channel more active with more contributors and conversations.
Research [1/7]
created almost 3 years agoedited almost 3 years ago
As with any respectable project we need to start from the very basics, namely research.
Research in web3 and blockchain is exciting and inspiring with infinite rabbit-holes (👈 on of the most common web3 lexicon) that can rob you of many days and nights. Nevertheless, it is one of the most exciting ways you can spend your time in 2022.
Web3 and DAOs are so new they requires perpetual self-learning. This is useful to know the latest developments in the space and to be able to formulate relevant ideas and strategies for Precious Plastic DAO.
I wish to begin the conversation around useful resources out there anyone is using to educate themselves so we can get closer to creating the most meaningful DAO for Precious Plastic.

I divided these in: Educational material, podcasts, YouTube channels, articles, DAOs out there. If there anything else not fitting those categories feel free to add it here.
Educational material [2/7]
created almost 3 years agoedited almost 3 years ago
Understanding how the Web3 world is still nascent and evolving at a ridiculous pace it is somewhat naive to think we can find complete educational resources on the topic. Self-learning still has to rely on a mix of diverse sources, twitter, discords etc..
Still there are a few good resources I've personally been using to navigate this new world:
- ImpactDAO bible https://greenpill.party/
- On-chain learning https://rabbithole.gg/
- Web3 university https://www.web3.university/
- Kernel from gitCoin https://www.kernel.community/en/
Curious to know which resources help you learn more about Web3.
Podcasts [3/7]
created almost 3 years agoedited almost 3 years ago
Podcasts (together with Twitter) seem to be the preferred way to propagate knowledge in the Web3 world. There are a ton of really insightful podcasts from incredibly smart people. Here are some I am loving:
- Bankless https://availableon.com/bankless
- Green Pill https://availableon.com/greenpill
- Seed Club https://open.spotify.com/show/29N7CJUW7Y5UukEqx3xiyK
- On the other Side https://open.spotify.com/show/3N9UiYP9Nfp1UzjHOPNDlu
- The Refi podcast https://open.spotify.com/show/5XHf1lW6cFhKVNwe2bwkgq
Please, please, please share your favorites 🙌

Youtube of course, the source of it all :)
On Youtube you can find some of the most educational content out there regarding blockchain, cryto and DAOs. Here's some of my favs:
- Max Maher https://www.youtube.com/c/MaxMaher
- Coin Bureau https://www.youtube.com/c/CoinBureau
- Bankless https://www.youtube.com/c/Bankless
- Andrej Jikh https://www.youtube.com/c/AndreiJikh
probably many many more I am not aware of, let me know!

Some of the smartest brains are pondering around web3 and how to change the world with it. Many use crypto native https://mirror.xyz/ as publishing platform even though Medium and personal blogs are still a common option.

Twitter is where the blockchain community lives. Following the right people can be the single best learning you can find. I am definitely not saying I am someone following the best crypto accounts and would need your help to source more resourceful accounts to follow. Here is a few I currently follow:

DAOs out there [7/7]

In order to formulate relevant ideas and proposal it is useful to look out there and see what people are already building potentially borrowing strategies and coordination mechanisms that could be beneficial for Precious Plastic.
Here's some of my favorite DAOs:

Blockchain & the environment
created almost 3 years ago
Blockchains and the environment had a rough start. But things are changing fast for the better and would like to show Precious Plastic people that using a blockchain is not synonymous with dumping tons of CO2 in the atmosphere. Below you can find my take on this issue from my place of limited knowledge on the topic. Please help me proof or kill my argument.
1. Blockchains are not all born equal. In 2022 most blockchains fall into 2 macro categories: Proof of Work (POW) or Proof of Stake (POS). These 2 categories define how consensus is achieved in the network. POW is the bad guy here. This is the original consensus mechanism used by Bitcoin, Ethereum and other early blockchains. This is a highly demanding, energy-heavy tech correctly criticized by the press (and Elon boy). But no one like to use overly consumptive systems, so subsequent blockchains developed a novel way of achieving consensus called Proof of Stake (POS) that achieves a 99% energy reduction.
2. ETH 2.0, Ethereum as it stands in 2022 is kinda dirty. However, their transition to POS has been in the making for 5yrs and should be released by the end of 2022 🤞 Why is this important? ERC20 tokens (many of the ones out there) are all built on top of Ethereum, making it a likely contender for a potential Precious Plastic coin. So good new here. More info in the link below:

Commons Stack application
created almost 3 years ago
On Friday 6th of May we've applied to the Commons Prize from Commons Stack.
If successful, a handful of talented technologists from Commons Stack will help us to design and develop the Precious Plastic DAO with priceless insiders know-how and expertise. The process will take 9mo leading up to the launch of the DAO, token and tokenomics.

First round of Commons Stack
created almost 3 years ago
Ok, we've got through the first round of Commons Stack voting. After a week long voting + a reset due to a bug we received 1329 votes from Common Stack seeds members. Out all entries we made it through the final 5! Excited for the next steps :)
CS, a deeper look
created almost 3 years ago
After making it through the first round we were asked to produce a video (within hours) with more details about our vision, implementation, details about the common and its challenges and more. Joseph did a great work outlining our thinking and ideas for the Precious Plastic commons.
Common Prize, we got second :(

created almost 3 years ago
After about a month of various AMAs, calls, votings and more the results are in 😬
Precious Plastic got so very close to win but eventually Grassroots Economy won the price. We got second. hats of to Grassroot Economy's team, they deserve the prize big time.
A few reflections from this experience:
1. There is a lot of excitement around Precious Plastic becoming a DAO
2. We're becoming well versed to present our ideas regarding PP DAO
3. web3 tech is buggy, through the process there has been at least 2 times where the voting had to be restarted for some sort of bugs (on 2 different voting platforms!). Guess that's the price to pay for nascent tech.
