How our Community Platform grew in 2025 🎉

How our Community Platform grew in 2025 🎉

Published 4moPublished 5 months ago

Time to look back... A recap of 10 features we have released this year.

The Community Platform is the open-source backbone software developed by One Army that powers (and empowers) the Precious Plastic or Project Kamp communities. It's the place where not only the knowledge is shared through Academy or Library, but also the community gathers, connects, asks questions or exchanges ideas.

You can read more about it here: https://www.onearmy.earth/community-platform

We continuously make improvements to serve the needs of the communities. However, this would not be possible without the help of our developers, designers and importantly contributors who voluntarily put many hours of work and wrote thousands of lines of code.

So, have a look at how the Platform improved in the past year! - This is our way to say a big THANK YOU 💛 to everyone that is or has been a part of this journey.

🌎 1. Map Update

We remade our map! The biggest change is that we added a list view on the left side. This gives more information when browsing around. Besides that we added more filter options, extended labels in the profiles and added the ability to send direct messages.

📰 2. News module

Finally! We introduced a way to share updates directly from the project to the community. You are reading one such News post right now as well. More so, readers can also comment and discuss right under the post.

🏷️ 3. Author Badge

We introduced a funky little badge that marks who is the author of a Research, Library project or a Question. This can be quite helpful to see in longer discussions.

🚪 4. Open to visitors

This small feature maybe went a bit under the radar. All the PP spaces (workspaces, machine shops, etc.) can now in their setting choose if they welcome visitors or not. You can even add a custom note to display more info about the visiting policy. That then gets shown in the profile. Have you already added your visitor policy?

🗄️ 5. Tech stack upgrade

We said goodbye to Firebase (Google) and hello to Supabase (Open source). Not really noticeable, but an important move towards more independent, secure and reliable platform. Oh and on top of that, new features are now easier to implement and maintain!

🗣️ 6. Header Tidy-up

Maybe not so noticeable, but satisfying. The headers of content in Library, Research and Questions got a bit more tidier and readable.

🌟 7. Useful Comments

For a long time we decided to steer away from likes, dislikes or hearts and rather introduced Usefuls as a way to measure the value of information. Now we brought Usefuls to comments. Oh and you can also sort the comment by most useful ones!

📣 8. Notification System

A project that turned out to be more complex than we initially thought were the notifications. Nevertheless we gave them a new look, introduced notifications by email and (hopefully) made them more useful for all.

⚡ 9. Following Comments or Replies

Connected to the notification update we launched a following feature for comments and replies. And if you are the one writing the comment you get automatically subscribed to the replies. Then they'll arrive into the notification box or your email if you wish.

🔗 10. Copy Comment Link

One of the smaller updates was also the option to copy a link to a comment. So if someone shares a really nice idea or gives a good advice, you can easily share it elsewhere.

That's it for 2025. What now?

And how would you want see this platform grow in 2026? Let us know in the discussion below.

Otherwise, we hope you had a great year, and wish you all the best for 2026,
the Community Platform Team
